Introduction & Market Context
For most positions within your organization, regular recruiting practices are perfectly adequate. They don’t require a great amount of time or resources and can help you fill vacancies effectively. When you need to find new leaders to guide your organization, however, you need to be a lot more careful to make sure you find top-quality people who fit your company perfectly.
To fill top positions like VP, C-suite, and board roles, Executive Search services are comprehensive and highly effective. In Botswana, the importance of identifying ideal executives can’t be understated. This Southern African country has seen consistent growth in the decades since it achieved independence, including a near-doubling of its GDP in the past two decades.
Now at $19.4 billion, Botswana is the 131st-largest economy in the world, but its per capita GDP of just over $7,000 places it 100th globally. Increased international investment and new technologies have led to increased growth in the tourism, mining, food processing, and digital technology industries. This growth, as well as an increase in the number of international companies entering Botswana, has created serious competition for top executive talent.
With its professional Executive Search services, Remote People discreetly targets top local and global leaders to bring you the people who fit your organization best. These executives will make the critical decisions that lead your organization to success in the future.
Our Executive Search Process
The normal recruitment process is basic and limited, though usually effective for most positions. Our Executive Search process, however, is much more in-depth and involves more than simply posting ads, screening applications, and interviewing candidates. We use a multi-stage process to help you identify, locate, and bring in the best candidates for your executive positions.
- Role Profiling & Strategy Creation: We start by consulting with you to determine the precise roles you need to fill and the exact skills and characteristics you’re looking for in successful candidates. We then craft a strategy to help us locate these candidates either in Botswana or abroad.
- Market Mapping & Outreach: Next, we map out the market to discover the types of people who fit your ideal candidate profile and find out where they are located. We start reaching out to these potential candidates discreetly, whether they’re currently employed or actively looking for new executive roles.
- Assessment & Shortlisting: In addition to in-depth interviews, we also evaluate candidates on other criteria, including their mental capacity, leadership style, and alignment with the vision of your organization. This extensive screening process helps us present you with only the best-fit, most highly skilled candidates.
- Client Interviews & Selection: We next arrange meetings between the candidates who interest you and your relevant stakeholders to let you get to know them even better. We can help you create a selection strategy to decide on the best people to lead your company into the future.
- Offer & Onboarding: Many recruiters stop with candidate selection, but we close the recruitment cycle by helping you create offers, negotiate terms, and manage candidate commitments. If you need our assistance, we can help you build an onboarding strategy so your new executive hires can quickly transition into their roles and start leading effectively.
Board & C-Suite Appointments
The top roles in your organization have to be filled by the top talent you can find. These are the executives who will make the critical decisions that will define and direct the future of your company, and you need to know that you can trust their skills and judgment.
We help you find the people with precisely the right combination of hard and soft skills, industry experience, vision, and alignment with the goals of your organization. Through our Executive Search services, we can help you fill the following types of positions:
- Upper-level managers
- VPs
- C-suite roles like CEO (Chief Executive Officer), COO (Chief Operating Officer), CFO (Chief Financial Officer), CMO (Chief Marketing Officer), CTO (Chief Technical Officer), CHRO (Chief Human Resources Officer), and more
- Board members
In Botswana, companies need to form their boards of directors in line with the King Code’s rules for corporate governance. This Code requires every board to have a majority of non-executive directors. Most of these should be independent, and the board should be chaired by an independent director.
While Botswana doesn’t mandate diversity quotas on boards, around 35% of board members in the country are women, and further diversity is encouraged to give boards a greater range of perspectives, experience, and skills. Our services help you meet these requirements while ensuring you have the best candidates at your disposal.
Strengthen Your Leadership Team
with Executive Search in Botswana
Struggling to find the right executives in Botswana? Remote People helps you identify and secure senior leaders who align with your vision and culture.
International & Expat Executive Placements
While Botswana is a geographically large country, its population is only 2.763 million. Focusing on only this small population can limit your choices for strong leadership, and that’s why our Executive Search services look abroad as well as at home. We have a standing pool of talent that includes over 100,000 professionals worldwide who can contribute their knowledge and cross-market experience to the success of your company.
If you choose an expatriate as a successful candidate, we’ll help you use their job offer to apply for a work permit with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. To do this, we’ll also help you show proof of your local recruitment efforts and prove the candidate has skills and qualifications not readily found locally. Once the work permit is obtained, we’ll help your candidate apply for a visa from their nearest Botswana Consulate, then travel to the country to start work.
Industries We Serve
No matter what industry you operate in, our Executive Search services can be used to find you ideal candidates. We also have specific teams of experts to help find leaders in the following growth industries in Botswana:
- Tourism: As home to important savanna ecosystems, Botswana’s tourism industry, particularly safari tourism, is on the rise. Tourism and hospitality companies need to find executives who have loads of international experience and vision for increased marketing and service provision.
- Mining: Botswana is an important source for diamonds, copper, and carbonates, as well as other extraction products. As global demand for these minerals increases, Botswana companies will need strong leadership to access global markets and maintain production at high levels.
- Food Processing: As an important producer and exporter of bovine and citrus products, Botswana needs executives who can find novel ways to add value to their products and transport them to global markets.
- Technology: ICT services and data security are increasingly in demand in the country. Managing the roll-out of these services to an increasing segment of the population will require skilled leadership in these highly competitive fields.

Timing & Market Considerations
The fiscal year in Botswana runs from 1 July to 30 June. Executive performance assessments are normally performed in the last quarter of this fiscal year to align bonus payouts with the end of June. This means that the best time to start an Executive Search is around March or April, giving you time to find new leaders to start in July.
If your candidates are currently employed, they may also need to give anywhere from two to six weeks’ notice of their resignations. Those coming from abroad may also need one-and-a-half to two months to obtain their work permits and visas so they can relocate.
Fee Models & Engagement Options
Instead of a tailored fee system, we assess a flat rate of 2% of the first-year salary of any successful candidate. Instead of paying it all up-front, however, we help you control your cash flow by paying the fee over 12 months. If your candidate doesn’t work out in the first three, we’ll replace them for free, and you’ll only pay for the months left in your initial year.
Future Outlook for Executive Search in Botswana
Companies in Botswana should expect growing competition for top leaders in the coming years. It’s becoming increasingly important for executives to have experience in global economies and high levels of digital literacy. As well, new roles like Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief AI Officer will need to be created in response to regulatory and technological advances.
