A New Study Ranks States with the Most Interest in Working from Home in 2024, with Georgia Topping the List

In recent years, “remote work” has become a buzzword across America. No longer just a dream for the tech-savvy, working from home has become a practical reality for millions.

The research team at RemotePeople analyzed over 20K search terms on Google Trends, such as “work from home jobs,” “remote work hiring,” “working from home,” and “how to find remote jobs,”  to figure out which states are most interested in working from home in 2024. 

Additionally, the team calculated the number of search terms for each state per 100K people to determine which states are leading the charge in remote work interest.

Top 10 States with the Highest Interest in Remote Work

Georgia

Leading the Remote Work Revolution

The study found Georgia at the top with a score of 96.58.

There are over 10K monthly searches per 100K residents looking for remote jobs through popular searches such as “work from home jobs” and “remote positions.”

This indicated a strong demand for remote work in Georgia, showing the state’s enthusiasm for this trend.

North Carolina

A Close Second in Remote Work Interest

Second on the list is North Carolina, with a score of 73.77 and nearly 9K monthly searches per 100K people.

The popular search terms “full-time remote jobs” and “part-time work from home” suggest North Carolinians are flexible about working from home despite their working conditions.

Mississippi and Tennessee

Strong Demand for Remote Jobs

Mississippi residents seem very interested in working from home, recording 8,651 monthly searches, which puts them in third place.

That high search volume, reflected in a score of 68.97, suggests that commuting to the office is a big concern for folks in Mississippi. 

Tennessee ranks fourth with a score of 64.75. Search trends in the state revealed a strong focus on finding quick and effective ways to make more money.

Terms like “how to make extra money at home” and “high-paying remote jobs” dominated the searches, highlighting a desire for practical solutions to boost their wallets.

Nevada

Prioritizing Flexibility and Work-Life Balance

Nevada is fifth with a score of 59.64. Residents in Nevada seem to be drawn to the idea of flexibility, with popular searches like “freelance remote work” and “part-time remote positions” suggesting a growing interest in work-life balance.

Florida

A Large State with High Remote Work Interest

With a hefty population, Florida represents massive remote working interests, ranking sixth on the list. It logs 8,073 monthly searches per 100K residents and has an index score of 59.10. Popular searches in Florida include “work from home jobs” and “remote work,” showing that Floridians are keen on finding opportunities from the comfort of their homes.

Steady Demand for Virtual Work

With a score of 58.26, South Carolina ranks seventh among states most interested in virtual work, recording 8,024 monthly searches per 100K residents.

Arizona, Alabama, and Texas

Rounding Out the Top 10

Arizona (56.21), Alabama (53.98), and Texas (52.15) follow closely behind and round out the top 10 states most interested in working from home.

Conversely, South Dakota prefers commuting to the office over working from home, as shown by its score of 3.42.

Limited Interest in Remote Jobs

Vermont and Massachusetts also showed less interest in remote jobs, with scores of 4.72 and 4.89, respectively.
