Dayforce is a global HR and payroll software company, originally part of Ceridian, focusing on HR, payroll, and workforce management solutions.
Dayforce Company Overview
Dayforce is a human resources software and services company headquartered in Minneapolis and Toronto, Canada, and operates around the world. It started as CDC (Control Data Corporation), which was restructured into Ceridian, an information services company, in 1992. Ceridian later acquired a small HR software company called Dayforce in 2012 and then fully converted to the Dayforce brand in 2024. However, it continues to provide software solutions for HR, payroll, and workforce management.
Dayforce is primarily a human capital management (HCM) platform taking care of client payroll and taxes, benefits administration, and talent management. It offers service packages for medium, large, and very large enterprises, though it specializes in mid-market businesses with fewer than 5000 employees.
In this review, I’ll look in detail at the services that Dayforce offers, how it compares with other providers, and why it may make a good choice for your HR services partner.
Dayforce Key Features
1. Dayforce Human Capital Management
The Dayforce platform can be thought of as a central location for all your employee management-related needs. First and foremost, it’s a location where you register all employees and store their documents and important information. Businesses with multiple entities can still use this system to manage all their employees in one place.
You can then manage all of their needs from this single platform. This includes their pay, benefits, schedules, leaves and other paid time off (PTO), evaluations, culture, and more. Dayforce’s HCM platform can also be called a human resources management system (HRMS) or a human resources information system (HRIS), and all of these terms are used interchangeably.
Clients can choose to subscribe to one of three service packages, Basic, Standard, or Premium, and each tier gives access to different HCM features. The Basic plan is aimed at companies with fewer than 1000 employees and has basic functionality including time and attendance, payroll, and benefits administration.
The Standard Plan is aimed at companies with fewer than 5000 employees. It includes the basic functions and adds recruiting, onboarding, and performance management. The Dayforce Premium plan adds more functions like succession and planning, learning and development, and employee engagement. The prices for these packages are reported to cost anywhere from $6-$30/employee per month and also require an implementation fee of around 50% of one year’s subscription.
Some of the functions found in these service packages include:
- Time & Attendance: One of the important focuses of the Dayforce platform is accurate and convenient time and attendance tracking. This module is available through the online platform with portals for employees to record and check their worked hours and for administrators to review their data. Dayforce also has a mobile app that lets employees clock in and clock out, make PTO requests, swap shifts with coworkers, and see their schedules and earnings.
- Performance Management: Performance management features let you produce and share evaluations, plus store them for reference. You can use AI-powered analytics to track employees’ trajectories and indicate high-performers as well as flight risks in your organization.
- Learning & Development: Dayforce includes a learning management system (LMS) that allows employers to weave training and learning opportunities throughout the employee lifecycle. You’re able to build self-directed courses that employees can access and work through from anywhere and at any time.
- Talent Management: You can bring employees on board and keep them happy and productive during their tenure with your company using Dayforce’s talent management tools. These give you help with strategic planning for your human capital needs, career path development, and AI-powered career recommendations.
- Employee Experience: The Dayforce platform helps you to manage and improve the experience of your workers so that you can keep them positive and limit employee turnover. It helps you award your top-performing staff, keep all people properly informed with the answers they need, and direct questions and issues to the right people through a smart ticketing system.
2. Dayforce Payroll
Dayforce offers a robust payroll system designed to streamline and automate payroll processes for companies of all sizes, providing time-saving solutions for HR teams and accurate, timely payments for employees.
With options for self-managed or fully managed payroll services, Dayforce supports a wide range of payroll needs, from local tax compliance to global payroll in over 200 countries.
Below are the key features of Dayforce’s payroll functionality:
Comprehensive Payroll Provider
- Integrates time and attendance tracking to streamline payroll.
- Automates continuous payroll updates, ensuring fair and accurate calculations.
Automated Calculations
- Tracks worked hours, calculates wages (gross salary minus tax withholdings and benefits), and includes garnishments if needed.
- Supports multiple pay schedules (weekly, monthly, even daily).
Flexible Payroll Management
- Choose between self-managed payroll or managed payroll with Dayforce professionals. Managed payroll has three tiers:
- Standard and Select tiers: collaborate with Dayforce for tax filing and reporting.
- Signature tier: fully outsourced payroll, including all compliance tasks.
Global Payroll Support
Pays employees in over 200 countries, ensuring compliance with international pay and tax regulations.
Dayforce Wallet Mobile App
Available on iOS and Android for on-demand access to earned wages, reducing payday stress for employees.
3. Dayforce Compliance
Using Dayforce, you can easily offer benefits to your employees. This includes benefits that are mandatory according to state and federal laws and optional benefits that make your compensation packages more attractive. Again, Dayforce gives you multiple options for managing benefits.
You can either use its benefits module on your own to keep track of packages, providers, and contributions, or you can pay more to have benefits managed for you.
Professional benefits admins combined with AI tools can help you and your employees choose the best packages possible.
Dayforce also links with over 650 carriers so that all choices and changes are updated directly from its platform.
4. Dayforce Recruitment
Like many HCM service providers, Dayforce doesn’t offer services to recruit staff directly for you. At least, it doesn’t offer to let you completely outsource this function. What it does do instead is provide you with recruiting software and access to talent pools.
Dayforce has its own built-in job board that can give you access to lots of applicants.
Includes AI tools that can pre-screen applicants and help you choose the best people as candidates.
Save time by automating processes like assessments, interview appointments, and background checks. You are still, however, left to do your own recruiting.
That is, of course, unless you’re looking for temporary or on-demand workers. In this case, Dayforce has another module, Dayforce Flex Work, that lets employers access workers who are pre-vetted and background-checked. Dayforce can provide these workers while handling their admin for you, such as payroll and worker’s compensation.
5. Dayforce Platform
While Dayforce offers a highly intuitive user interface, it’s also a massive platform and as such, it can take time to master. It will also typically take between three to five weeks to implement Dayforce within your organization, longer with larger numbers of staff.
- The Dayforce platform has pre-built integrations with 46 apps like Quickbooks, DocuSign, Bob, Jobvite, and Microsoft 365.
- You can also build custom integrations using the Dayforce API. These integrations allow you to share data between Dayforce and the other tools you’re already using to save time and maintain accuracy.
- This platform offers high-security standards, following SOC1 and SOC2 controls, and is certified by both NIST 800-171 and ISO 27001. This commitment to security assures clients that their sensitive data and that of their employees are properly protected.

Dayforce 2025 Feature Updates
