Papaya Global Pros and Cons

Papaya Global homepage

Papaya Global’s specific advantages and disadvantages include:

Data security

Papaya Global is compliant with GDPR and SOC 1 &2 standards, ISO 27001 and ISO 22201 certified, and CSA Star Level 1 attested.

Benefits packages

This provider offers health insurance packages that can be added on for employees and managed within its platform. These packages can be tailored to employees’ needs or to the conditions mandated in the 160+ countries where they’re provided.

Contractor price

Payapa Global’s contractor management price of just $30/contractor per month is very affordable even for the smallest of small businesses.

Limited integration

Papaya Global has an API that allows developers to build custom integrations with other software. However, its out-of-the-box integrations are limited. It only allows integration with seven other apps. While it offers “connectors” to help integrate with HCM, HRIS, and VMS software, greater integration with other software would make this platform much more convenient.

Invoicing issues

Papaya Global’s invoicing system has been criticized by users for lacking detail and for taking a long time to resolve invoicing disputes. This includes invoices for both clients and contractors.

Limited features

Unlike other providers in this space, Papaya Global lacks some important features that would otherwise allow it to act as a standalone human capital management (HCM) system. It doesn’t include recruitment management, applicant tracking, analytics, workflow, and reporting features.

Deel Pros and Cons

Deel homepage
Deel homepage

As a similar GEP service provider, Deel also has its specific pros and cons. These include.

Free HR offering

Deel has a basic human resources information system (HRIS) called Deel HR. This system is “forever free” for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with under 200 employees and can work as an easy way to pre-trial this system before signing up.

Efficient onboarding

Deel’s self-serve portal makes onboarding employees and contractors quick and easy. It automatically generates contracts, helps workers sign them online, and allows them to upload their necessary documents easily.

Data security

Deel complies with the SOC 1,2 and 3 and GDPR standards and is also ISO 27001 certified. It uses encryption protocols and 2FA (two-factor authentication) to further protect user data and privacy.

Easy payments

Deel pays employees around the world in 120 of their local currencies. It also allows contractors to pay in these currencies through direct deposits, online payment systems like Wise and Payoneer, or even cryptocurrencies. Deel can also bill clients in 24 global currencies.

Lacks features

Much like Papaya Global, Deel lacks a lot of the features you’d need to use this platform as your only HCM system. Deel doesn’t include recruitment management, applicant tracking, analytics, workflow, or headcount features. In addition, Deel doesn’t yet offer a mobile app to allow employees and contractors to access the platform while on the go.

Complex pricing

Deel lists its prices online for contractor, EOR, and global payroll services. However, these are simply starting prices and may not reflect the actual cost in different countries. Adding services and features can also raise these prices, but it’s difficult to estimate costs without requesting a quote from Deel.

Contractor management price

At $49/person, Deel’s monthly contractor management price is a lot higher than many competitors in this space.

Platform complexity

While Deel’s platform has an intuitive user interface that’s easy for new users to interact with, it also includes very complex functionality. This can make it difficult to learn.

Head-to-Head Comparison: Papaya Global vs Deel Features

Now that we’ve had a chance to look at the pros and cons of each platform individually, it’s time to go head-to-head. Rather than taking Papaya vs Deel and trying to find an overall winner, our goal here is to compare these two service providers directly across several criteria to see where each one is a better choice.

User-friendly platform: It’s a tie

According to user reviews, Deel is slightly easier to use than Papaya Global. Deel has a fairly steep learning curve at first, which can be a challenge to overcome. However, once they get used to it, users find it convenient and intuitive. At the same time, users prefer Deel’s level of support, which they say is more attentive and helpful when issues occur. For these reasons, we’re calling it a draw between these two platforms.

Resources: It’s a tie

Deel’s resources include an ongoing blog, educational webinars, a global employment comparison tool, and a global benefits tool that helps calculate the costs of employees in different countries. Papaya Global features a blog, resource library, cost calculator, decision tree, and RFP template. These resources are quite evenly matched.

Integration with other software: Deel Wins

Deel can integrate with over 90 software solutions, including Ashby, Asana, BambooHR, Greenhouse, HiBob, Lever, Quickbooks, Slack, Workable, Workday, and Zapier. It includes an API developers can use to build new integrations. Papaya Global also has an API as well as “connectors” to help with data transfer from HR and financial software. However, it only offers seven out-of-the-box integrations (SAP, Oracle, Netsuite, Bamboo, Namely, HiBob, Expensify), which is much more limited.

Deel App Integrations
Tons of app integration with Deel

International hiring (EOR): It’s a tie

Both Papaya Global and Deel provide EOR services, including hiring, onboarding and offboarding, payroll, taxes, and benefits administration. Deel works in 150+ countries and Papaya Global in 160+, but the difference is too slight to make much difference.

Contractor Solution: Papaya Global Wins

Deel excels at offering flexible payment possibilities for contractors, including a wide array of currencies, online payments, direct deposits, and even a Deel Card (debit card). At the same time, Deel’s contractor price is high at $49 per contractor per month. This is why Papaya Global takes this category with its much more affordable $30 per contractor per month.

Employee Benefits: Papaya Global Wins

Both service providers administer the mandatory benefits that must be provided for employees in different countries, including social security contributions and PTO. However, Deel doesn’t offer other benefits to international employees, just US workers. Papaya Global, on the other hand, lets employers add health care insurance packages for their employees and manages these conveniently within its platform.

Payroll Management: Deel Wins

Both Papaya Global and Deel simplify payroll management by automatically calculating salaries and deductions through their platforms and facilitating contractor invoices. Deel wins for payroll because it provides a range of payment options for compensation contractors and lets clients choose from 24 currencies to be billed in, while Papaya Global offers only 14.

Our Verdict: Papaya Global vs Deel

Now that we’ve seen these two service providers individually and compared them in specific categories, it’s time to make a choice. We don’t need to choose one or the other as the overall winner. Instead, we want to help you choose which of these platforms best suits your organization’s needs.

When to choose Papaya Global

Smaller organizations that want to hire contractors will be happy with Papaya Global’s options and low prices. This is also the provider to choose if you want or need to provide health insurance packages for your global employees.

When to choose Deel

Deel is a great choice for organizations that prioritize flexible payments to keep high-quality contractors happy. Deel also makes Payroll easy by providing many billing options. And if you want a platform that’s more likely to integrate seamlessly with your tech stacks, this is the right choice.
