Paychex Pricing: How Much Does Paychex Cost in 2025?
Paychex is a large American service provider that has worked in the payroll and HR services space for decades. This provider works with nearly three-quarters of a million client companies in the US and worldwide.
While many of its competitors post their prices online, Paychex chooses to keep its pricing private and prepare personalized quotes for potential clients instead.
In this review, we’ll reveal the prices we’ve been able to find and discuss how they’re assessed. We’ll also explain Paychex’s different service packages to help you decide which might be your organization’s best choice.
Paychex Pricing Structure
| Paychex Plan | Monthly Base Fee | Per Employee Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Paychex Flex Essentials | $39 | $5 |
| Paychex Flex Pro | $47 | $3 |
| Paychex Flex Enterprise | $95 | $3 |
| PEO Services | Varies | Approx. $140 |
A lot of other payroll and PEO companies put their pricing on their websites so potential clients can quickly assess them and compare them with competitors. However, others choose to give their prices by personalized quote instead for two reasons: this strategy draws in clients who give their organization’s contact information, and it also lets them hide prices that may (seem to) be higher than those of their competitors.
Paychex is one of the latter and asks people to share information with it so they can receive quotes tailored to their needs. However, we’ve been able to uncover some Paychex prices for you.
The only price that Paychex reveals online is its starting price for its Paychex Flex Essentials plan which costs $39/month as a base fee plus $5/employee per month. This service plan includes payroll processing and tax administration, workforce management, and risk management features and is designed for small businesses with under 20 employees.
Paychex previously revealed its starting price for its next-level service package Paychex Flex Pro. This cost was $47/month plus $3/employee per month. The package covers Essentials features and adds state unemployment insurance, garnishment and general ledger services, and some talent management features.
Paychex Flex Enterprise is the provider’s top payroll package intended for large companies and was previously priced at $95/month plus $3/employee per month. This package adds to Pro with extra features like performance management, document management, paycheck previews, and more.
Paychex also offers PEO or Professional Employment Organization services which include all of the features of the Enterprise package as well as benefits administration. While we haven’t been able to locate a definitive price for this service, several users report an average cost of around $140/employee per month.
For accurate, current pricing, you should contact Paychex directly and request a quote for the services you require.

All About Paychex
Headquartered in Rochester, New York, and founded in 1971, Paychex, Inc. has been in the HR services space for much longer than most competitors. This company went public in 1983 and has grown by building its business, acquiring subsidiaries, and taking over rivals.
In 2024, Paychex posted revenues of $5.278 billion, making it one of the largest 700 companies in the US. The company has around 16,500 employees and works with over 740,000 client companies, large and small.
Paychex's Main Services and Features
Paychex delivers its varying service packages through a combination of attentive, 24/7 customer support and advice from HR specialists with its Paychex Flex online platform.
This platform acts as a central location for storing employee data and managing their different HR needs. It has plenty of features and also allows your workers to access their own information and perform self-service tasks either through the online employee portal or the Paychex mobile app.
Of the multiple features and services provided by Paychex, the most important include the following:
Payroll
With a name like Paychex, it should come as no surprise that this provider’s main service is payroll. As we’ve seen in its pricing, it offers three tiers of payroll services aimed at companies of different sizes – Essentials, Pro, and Enterprise.
These services help client companies manage their payroll processing efficiently by automating many of the tasks required. You’ll need to set up a profile for each employee, and the system will then create a calculation for each one based on their salary, tax obligations, and benefits contributions.
Paychex also takes care of paying your payroll taxes for both W-2 employees and 109 contractors, filing taxes for you with state and federal authorities. It can pay your employees through various options, including paper checks, direct deposits, or front-loaded pay cards.
Benefits Administration
Paychex offers benefits administration as a part of its PEO services or as an extra add-on service for payroll clients. It helps you identify the mandatory benefits you must provide for workers in each state, including FICA, state unemployment insurance, and workers’ compensation and calculates the amounts of employer and employee contributions.
If you want to provide additional benefits for your workers, including things like health insurance, retirement savings plans, and tax-advantaged savings accounts like HSAs and FSAs, it will also help you manage enrollment and contributions.
PEO Services
As a certified Professional Employment Organization, Paychex offers a full HR outsourcing service to help manage your employees across all 50 states of the US. With PEO service, you enter into a co-employment relationship with the PEO and your employees. While you remain their legal employer, the PEO manages all of the HR concerns and is their go-to contact when they have issues or questions about things like payroll, PTO, and benefits.
Paychex runs their payroll, pays their salaries, withholds and remits their state and federal taxes, and manages their benefits contributions. It also monitors changes in labor and tax laws so it can ensure that you’re compliant at all times.
Talent Management
Paychex’s Flex Pro, Flex Enterprise, and PEO packages include talent management tools to help you bring people on board and keep them happy and productive. It provides tools for pre-employment screening, performance management, and employee handbook creation. When you’re looking to acquire new staff, you can also add on Paychex’s ATS (applicant tracking system), which includes recruiting tools and integrations with job posting websites.
Unlike most competitors, Paychex offers onboarding services as an add-on rather than having these rolled into its payroll packages, though this is included with PEO service. The Paychex Flex platform helps walk new hires through the onboarding system, where they can sign forms, upload their necessary documents, and be added to your payroll.
Time and Attendance Management
Time and attendance tracking is essentially for correctly processing payroll. You can use external tools for this process, or you can choose one of the two add-on modules Paychex provides.
Flex Time lets you collect data through web punch, mobile app, facial recognition, iris and fingerprint scans, and interactive voice recognition systems. This module monitors breaks and meals, provides schedule templates, alerts you about upcoming overtime, and includes multiple analytics tools and calculators. Flex Time Essentials is a cheaper version of this time-tracking module offering a more limited range of features and tools. Both are linked directly to payroll so they can share data in real time.
HR Management
If you don’t want to completely outsource your HR function to Paychex, you can still take advantage of the multiple HR management tools found on its platform as well as professional support services. With all payroll packages, you gain access to an extensive HR library to help you learn how to manage employees’ needs more effectively.
A learning management system is also available as an add-on to help you provide development materials and courses for employee development. You can also get compliance support and suggestions from a dedicated HR professional who can help assess your needs, create an action plan, and simplify your management processes.
Paychex and Its Pricing
Paychex specializes in high-touch payroll and PEO services with 24/7 support. While we haven’t been able to locate all of its pricing data, the information we have found indicates that Paychex is a provider that offers a great deal of service at higher-than-average prices. As such, this provider may be a better match for medium and large businesses while it could be more than what most small businesses require.
